RII30820 is the full qualification for skilled civil construction plant operators. It reflects the role of operators who apply a broad range of skills across varied work contexts, use discretion, judgement and relevant theoretical knowledge, and who may provide advice and support to a team.
The qualification is made up of 20 units: 15 core units plus 5 electives. The elective groups cover the major plant types, so the qualification can be built around the machines you actually operate. There are no entry requirements. Licensing, legislative and certification requirements vary between states, territories and industry sectors, so check what applies to your role before you enrol.

I was struggling with the reverse at first, but he took extra time (and mostly extra patience) with me and never made me feel stressed about it. He even found a way of teaching it that really worked for me, which made all the difference. Super clear, patient, and actually makes learning fun.
I recently did my MC and was trained by 2 seperate trainers who were patient and were great at explaining things differently in order for me to understand. The workers here (including assessor) are super calm and relaxed which takes away the thought of an actual assessment. Would recommend these guys 100%.

You do not need to hold a driver licence or WA driver licence to undertake training and assessment for this unit where training is conducted in a suitable controlled training environment or on private property.
Completing this unit does not give you a driver licence, high risk work licence or automatic authority to operate the equipment at every workplace.
Workplaces, mine sites and other states or territories may have additional licensing, induction, site authorisation or competency requirements. You should check the requirements of the workplace where you intend to operate the equipment.
For HR you need two years on a WA C class licence, or one year on an MR or LR. For HC you need 12 months on MR or HR. For MC you need 12 months on HR or HC. If you are close to the mark, call us and we will check the dates with you.
Your assessor will explain what you need to improve and discuss the next steps. These may include more practice, additional training or another assessment. Reassessment arrangements depend on the course and our assessment policy. Contact us to confirm any conditions or additional costs.
For construction driving courses, you must wear safety work boots. For HTT- truck licence courses, closed-in shoes are all that is required for footwear.
Bring the identification, licence or permit required for your course, along with any requested learning materials.
There are two separate requirements: completing the nationally recognised unit of competency and passing the Department of Transport driving test, called a Practical Driving Assessment (PDA).
We are approved to conduct these driving tests. You may successfully complete the unit or you may need more time to complete the unit and receive a Statement of Attainment but still not pass the driving test.
You must pass the driving test and have your licence upgraded by the Department of Transport before you can drive that vehicle class independently.
Call us at least 48 hours before your course and we will move you to the next available date at no charge. Inside 48 hours we will still do our best, but the machine and the trainer are already committed.
