A Heavy Rigid (HR) licence allows you to drive heavy rigid vehicles with 3 or more axles and a GVM greater than 8 tonnes. It also allows you to drive an articulated bus and tow a single trailer with a GVM of up to 9 tonnes.
Highway Truck Training provides nationally recognised TLIC3004 Drive heavy rigid vehicle training and assessment, with options available for automatic, synchromesh and non-synchromesh transmissions.
Heavy Rigid Automatic (HR-A)
Training and assessment are completed in an automatic HR vehicle.
An A condition restricts the licence holder to vehicles fitted with an automatic transmission.
Heavy Rigid Synchromesh (HR-B)
Training and assessment are completed in a vehicle fitted with a synchromesh manual transmission.
A B condition allows the licence holder to drive HR vehicles fitted with an automatic or synchromesh transmission.
Heavy Rigid Road Ranger/Crash Box (HR Open Class)
Training and assessment are completed in a heavy vehicle fitted with a non-synchromesh transmission, commonly referred to as a Road Ranger or crash box. This provides the unrestricted transmission option for the HR class.
To apply for an HR licence in WA, you must meet the applicable licensing requirements, including having held:
Applicants must meet the required commercial vehicle eyesight standard. If glasses or contact lenses are required to meet the eyesight standard, the appropriate condition will be applied to the driver’s licence.
Applicants must also declare any relevant medical condition that may affect their ability to safely drive a heavy vehicle. Additional medical assessment may be required where applicable.
Successful completion of the required training and assessment includes TLIC3004 Drive heavy rigid vehicle and the applicable HR licensing assessment requirements.
Eligible learners who successfully complete the licensing process can have the Heavy Rigid (HR) class added to their WA driver’s licence, subject to the applicable Department of Transport requirements.
Highway Truck Training is an approved Department of Transport (DOT) Heavy Vehicle Driver Training and Assessment provider, allowing eligible learners to complete their HR training and assessment with us as part of the WA heavy vehicle licensing process.
